I just saw a film called Sideways which was surprisingly very good. I don't usually go for something I don't recognise and it doesn't have any big stars in it - the leads are Paul Giamatti, an avarage looking guy playing a depressed, failed writer who goes on a wine tasting road trip with his stocky, womanising best buddy played by Thomas Haden Church - an actor best known for playing Sandman in Spiderman 3.

It's one of those very 'real' movies with characters you care about, in the same genre as About Schmidt or Broken Flowers - another two great movies that any Jack Nicholson or Bill Murray fans should see if they haven't.

Anyway, I just thought I'd mention Sideways - these smaller movies need a boost and I don't think I'm alone in my opinion as it got 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The last movie I saw was Juno. I would definitely give it an A. All the characters were great and they did a good job of moving from comedy to drama; sometimes almost too fast though. I think I especially liked this movie because a very good friend of mine talks exactly like the Juno character all the time! She just says whatever pops into her head no matter how strange, crass, or insane it might sound. It can be very entertaining to know someone like that in real life.

In the past week my fiance and I watched like 15 movies on blu ray to test it out the ps3. Last one we saw was Shoot em Up with clive owen and Monica. To be honest awful movie. No story line, some extremely unbeliveable stunts, like driving head on into another car and on impact jumping throught the to winshields laning in the other car and killign everyone with out getting hurt. O and havign a gun fight while skydiving with 20 guys vs. 1 and he wins.

Ona side note 300 on blu ray.....holy crap, amazing.

I saw this on TV a while back and really liked it.

I've been trying to get out for the past week to see this movie. Maybe tonight.

Anyways, Last two movie's I've seen were Donnie Darko and Ghost Rider. I put up a thread on DD not too long ago. Amazing movie.

Ghost Rider, not so much.

I was watching one of the BCS games two nights ago, I think, and a friend of mine said something about regret. I said "Speaking of regret, I watched Ghost Rider the other night." That about sums up my experience of the movie.

Juno here. I have a thread on it somewhere.

Sideways was a good movie. There were some VERY good scenes in it. I especially empathize with the main characters hatred for Merlot.

But it's a Pinot he really likes. I believe it's a noir, which seem similar to merlots. I don't know. I prefer Scotch to wine, so I'm not really the one to comment.

I also want to see national treasure 2.

It's not Merlot. That is all that matters.

The Magnificent Seven
(1960)

i recently DVR'd this and watched it over a couple days. i like to try to catch these "classic" movies when i can, especially if i haven't seen them before.

this classic western, based upon the Kurosawa film, the seven samurai, is really as good as people have always said. of course, it's not nearly as action oriented, or bloody, as any relatively modern action film, but it doesn't need it. the film oozes cool, contributed by an awesome cast including yul brenner, steve mcqueen, james coburn, robert vaughn, and charles bronson.
it is long, but not boring. the plot, while mostly borrowed, is just as good in the western setting as it was in a fudal Japanese setting. also, as i mentioned before, it is not bloody. the action is standard old-school western fare with no exploding blood packs, and consists mainly of guys grabbing their guts and falling over when shot.

i'd recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it if you like any of the modern westerns, war movies, action films, or are just a film buff who likes to hit as many of the old classics as possible.

I am a big Takashi Miike fan, so I went to go see One Missed Call which was a remake of one of his films. It sucked, the end.

It makes me feel a little bit better knowing "one missed call" is a remake. I thought it was "fear.com" only with cell phones. Maybe the original is where they got the idea for "fear.com" and that other one involving a video tape. They all were pretty terrible.

Great movie. Seven Samurai is better though :D I'm a huge Kurosawa fan. Ran is one of my favorites.

Definitely. I know Seven Samurai inside and out, and I really WANTED to like the Magnificent Seven just as much but I just couldn't properly appreciate it because I kept comparing it to the *ahem* best-movie-evermade *cough*

I guess it is one of the best westerns out there though.

The last movie I saw was The Big Lebowski. It was comic genius, but definitely aimed towards the, uh, "Willie Nelson" crowd (if you catch my drift). It made me want to go bowling, which I did yesterday. It was one of the few John Goodman movies that I liked. The scattering of the ashes scene was one of the funniest movie scenes of all time, IMHO.

Is one of the funniest movie made. I seriously haven't seen a movie that has made more laugh more than The Big Labowski.

"8 year olds dude."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The Big Lebowski is definitely on the list of all time greats.

We just watched the new Futurama movie, I give it an A. It was well done, had a lot of tie in's with the series, and was overall a great re-introduction to the series coming back.

Visually, yea. I turned that movie off after the one guy was kicked into the pit. It was probably like 10-15 minutes into the movie. It's such a bad movie IMO.

No Country for Old Men
The story is great, the suspense is unbearable. I love the way it was shot. It's such a beautiful movie visually. I didn't really get the ending. I would have picked a different spot.

I need to watch Helvetica. It's a documentary about the font. I received it last week, Netflix, and it sounds really good, I just haven't watched it yet.

You only watched 10 minutes of it? Wow.

Okay, the movie wasn't a piece of art. It was war porn. Period. I think a lot of people expected something that it never tried to be. It was simply a bunch of buffed up Greek guys killing people. And you know what? I loved EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

That movie gives me shivers every time I watch it.

Speaking of Coen brothers...
