I need a new home printer and scanner to replace my HP C3140 which quit scanning all of the sudden and is out of both inks. I figure might as well upgrade. Is there a printer/scanner combo that works best with Macs?

The HP website says that the driver download does not include a driver for a scanner. Does this mean this thing wont work with a mac?

Not strictly true....

Yesterday I hooked up a new Canon Pixma 4500 to my iMac, expecting Leopard to correctly identify the printer and require no drivers etc...it didn't! It did identify the printer correctly but didn't have drivers for the 4500, only the earlier 4300 model.

So, no big deal but I did have to run the installation CD from Canon - wasn't sure this would work as it only listed compatibility with OS X 10.4 but everything now works OK with the new printer on Leopard.

I dont think I have the install cd anymore and the download states that it doesn't include a scan driver. Maybe I need to track down a cd.

Was in a similar boat and just bought a Epson RX680 to go with our new iMac. It's a nice all in one unit overall.

I have the Canon PIXMA MX700. It works like a champ for me. I even have it networked via the built-in NIC.

I'm using a HP F4140. It's mac compatible and has everything but a fax. Decent on ink too

You might not have to Leopard might already have the correct drivers.

I am using an HP 2840 which is a combined colour laser printer, flatbed scanner, fax and has a memory card reader. Sounds great, but Leopard broke a lot of the functionality and HP still have not updated their software!

I think the scanner just went out without affecting the use of the printer. I think I am just gonna scrap it and get a new one.

I have a Kodak Easyshare 5300, which is a combo printer, scanner, and photo printer which has been great. I would recommend it if pictures are even an occasional thing as Kodak has made it all quite simple, and cheap. The ink as well is quite cheap when compared to other brands and is top quality on prints.
