easy way to convert .avi to mp4

Hello..I have to send a quick interview of myself in mp4 format. It doesn't have to be anything great and was hoping to record myself on my canon PNS and video...it comes out just fine but in AVI...I need to submit in mp4....is there any free software that can do this?

ffmpegX is by far and away the quickest app I have used for any video format conversion. It's potentially a longish process depending to some extent on the video length, but free to use, and very good..
