Safari doesn't open PDFs..

OK, so a message pops up about Adobe viewer is unavailable or something similar, and reading in other forums, I gather I have an Adobe acrobat plugin in Safari that needs to be removed so Preview can be used as default and all is well.

Problem is, how do you remove the plugin ??

If memory serves, you need to remove the Adobe Acrobat plugin from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins -- I can't remember the exact filename, because I removed it from mine some time ago.

Thanks ! I'm on Leopard and don't want to screw something up, if i find that plugin, can I just drag it and delete and not worry about having Safari get buggy afterwards ?

It shouldn't cause any problems. Just to be safe, you might drag it somewhere other than the trash first. Best to quit Safari first. The Finder will almost certainly pop up an authentication dialog because /Library is a system folder.

On the off chance that something goes wrong with Safari (it didn't when I moved the plug-in out), you can drag it back.

its in Library > Internet Plug-Ins

you can move the AdobePDFViewer.plugin to the disabled folder in there to be safe

Ah yes, forgot there was a disabled folder in there. Indeed, that's the filename I've got in there (along with a Windows Media Plugin that I disabled as well).

No worries... We were all new to OSX at one time...

Maybe this folder was created with Tiger but not Leopard (I'm still running Tiger on my MBP). It wouldn't hurt anything to create a "Disabled Plug-Ins" folder in there. Alternately, just create a directory in your home folder and move the PDF plugin there.

PDFs are now opening in Safari as they should !@!

Doesn't it rock that you just move/delete a file to disable an application/plugin? No stupid registry or flotilla of dll files to deal with.
