• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Does MOV work in iMovie and After effects as my DV is broken at the moment, so all I have is my digi cam, will a MOV file be able to edit directly into iMovie or After effects?
Thanks.
And does an iMac have the wire for the DV... whats it called?
Firewire.jpg

Ive only got a wire that has the wire on the right on BOTH ENDS, can that connect to my imac?
Thanks for your time.

Oh wow, sorry for the huge image, is there a way to resize that?

MOV files will work in After Effects. I don't use iMovie so I'm not 100% sure but it should as MOV works very well with Final Cut.

And as for the firewire (DV) cable you have, you have a 6pin/6pin cable. Your iMac SHOULD have a 6pin firewire port but I use a PowerBook so no guarantees. But to work with your MiniDV camera, you will need the cable you have a picture of (4pin to 6pin cable). They should be available at most electronics retailers for around $30-$40.

Imagewell is a great little free app for resizing.

aww, so my 6pin 6pin wont work then?
Thats crap lol.
Oh well, I guess I'll work with my digi cam, the only problem is it wont pause, so when I make a movie thing, if I do different angles it will be a new file every time :(

No the 6pin won't work unless your camera has a 6pin port on it (very unlikely). Like I said tho, if you have a best buy or circuit city or compusa nearby, they have those 4pin to 6pin cables available for around $30-$40. heck, check compusa because they're supposedly having a going out of business sale.

Wow, your MiniDV cam has a 6pin port on it? Well yeah, if your cam has the port then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just to make sure we are clear, in your picture, the plug on the LEFT is a 4PIN and the plug on the RIGHT is a 6PIN.

You're supposed to resize it yourself.

If you can't add resize it, add it as an attachment to your post: it will put a thumbnail below your post which when clicked on will open a new window for the full sized image.

Usually a forum layout accepts an image that is 800 pixels wide, no more otherwise it breaks the layout like your did above.
