Mac Icons ... Saving ... Creating?

I am trying to figure out how to do two things on my Mac:

1. Save a system or application icon. I have a couple that I would like to save, reduce then put on my iPhone.

2. Edit or create icons. Any recommendations on what the best icon editing/creation software packages out there? I used to use Axialis IconWorkshop pro on my Windows box, but havent been able to find anything comperable on the mac. And dont suggest IconBuilder! It is totally overcomplicated and lame!

Use get info on the icon. In the get info window you can select an icon and copy it. You can then paste the icon in to your image editor and save it as a PNG
