Will an iMac run Maya?

I want to switch to Mac, but the best I will ever be able to afford is an iMac. All I need it to be able to do though is run Maya decently.

Will the 2.4Ghz 20-inch iMac be able to? I really have no idea how the ATI Radeon HD compares to a Nvidia Quadro (What I'm using in my PC at the moment).

Which version of Maya do you have? I am assuming you will be using Leopard on your iMac right?

I will either get 8.5 or 2008. I'm leaning towards 8.5 though because that is what my school is using at the moment.

The 32-bit version of Autodesk 2008 software is supported on Mac OS X 10.4.9 (PowerPC and Intel versions of Maya).

I don't know a lot about their software so I don't know if you can use the same disc. But they do have it for mac. You can always run it on bootcamp or parallels if you have to re-buy it for the mac.

I would say that it is possible to run Maya, but I don't have a copy installed at the moment. All of the autodesk support sites say that Leopard is not officially supported yet. Online a lot of people are talking about how it doesn't work for them on the specific machine you mentioned. However, a bunch of them who did have problems, have pointed to this link:

Most of them had success with that update.

As far as the hardware is concerned, yes the iMac is more than capable.
