I began typing in a email address, and as I attempted to type letters, numbers appeared. Very strange. I rebooted and everything turned normal.

was f6 num-lock turned on? (if it was a laptop)

This happened to me too.. it's because of numlock like PowerBookG4 posted above me said.

Wow! You guys are life savers!!! I though my brand new MBP had gone alien on me. Have to watch that when I'm adjusting the volume. Not a cool place for the num lock.
