Its obvious that everyone here speaks (or at least reads and writes) English.

I have been learning Japanese (speech, hiragana, katagana, and some kanji) and was curious as to who else is learning Japanese or any other language for that matter....

Oh, and I speak Fluent Redneck :D

I had French in high school and German in college, though I've had almost no practical experience with either.

There are the other languages however. There's C, Awk, Python, and some others from my past. Oh and there's also Unix. While not a "language" itself, fluency in it can help one perform magic with computers. :D

I took a year of Japanese in high school and one year in college. I also picked up some Chinese. I regret not continuing to learn either.

I understand Korean, I just don't know how to speak it yet. Like someone can speak to me in Korean, and I understand what he/she's sayin. I just can't respond.

Basic Spanish and basic Japanese. Actually my Japanese is probably better than my Spanish even though I took 4-5 semesters of Spanish and never studied Japanese formally. I used to be able to read and write hiragana and katakana fluently, pretty rusty now though.

I speak 2 and 1/2 Languages:

Australian (Well our brand of English haha!)
German

Well I got rather bored one day and did a random google search and it put me at a how to speak Klingon page. So I actually read up on it and learned what was there. So now I can speak quite a few phrases in it. I'm no where near as good as those hardcore trekies out there. But enough to get by I guess. That's the 1/2 a language. Kinda pointless but a good cure for boredom.

american english (i say al-oo-min-um).

i took three years of italian in high school, half a semester of french in college (dropped it to save my gpa when i realized i wasn't going to hack it). then took a couple semesters of spanish.

i only know a handful of words and phrases in those and a few other languages now. and of course lots of british english terms, phrases, and pronunciation that differ from american english.

My mother tongue is French. I learned talking English by watching TV shows like The Rifleman, Fury, My friend Flicka and others (only the uhm *cough* *cough* older members will know what I'm talking about here). Let it be known that TV can be very educational. :D

I wanted to learn English because my parents would talk about my Xmas gifts in English in front of me then play dumb and know everything in advance. ;)

The only French I can speak is:

Je mange la fenêtre

It sounds so impressive... the way it rolls off the tongue.

Very wise tactic MHC! Yeah, I have heard a lot of people learn new languages from watching TV. Do you think in French since it's your native tongue?

Oh my. You want to eat some window.

Here, I'll start a fund raiser "Feed the DB".

Interestingly enough, for certain subjects I'll think them out in English while others I'll think in French. Certain ideas are better expressed in English and certain others are better said in French. It's weird, I know, but it's like they both have their speciality. I can't explain it either, very weird.

LOL, I love "The Rifleman"! Nothing better than a show where almost every episode ends in a guy getting the business end of a rifle.

And they say shows today are more violent! :p

The difference is that those shows always showed:

- the villain making a theatrical dance before falling dead, sometimes even having the time to talk and confess his sins before dying

- they never showed blood.

Nowadays, I faint if I see shows like CSI. Ewww. :p
