iTunes bitrate problem

For some reason on my new MacBook Pro, whenever I rip a CD to my iTunes library, even though I have 128kbps AAC selected, the bitrates come out varied (track 1 is 124 kbps, track 4 is 119 kbps, etc). This never happened on past machines. Any idea how I can fix this?

Are you sure you haven't got VBR selected instead of CBR?

I don't see any options for VBR or CBR unless I try to create a custom import setting, which I don't think I needed to do before. How can I find out if VBR is on or off?

Under iTunes preferences>advanced>importing>aac encoder

Look under custom, and chaeck if the "use VBR" box is ticked or not. If it is, untick it! If it isn't then I have no clue as to why it would record as VBR, unless the "auto" setting does this.
