How do i format my drive????

I have a ntfs external hard drive, that i want to format for mac. Right now i can't write to it, i can only read it.

Okay, I have very large files and over 70 gigs of information i need to transfer to my hard drive.

In disk utilities and erase drive, there are several options on how to make the external drive like mac extended, mac extended journaled, etc.... i don't know which one to use :(
