This could be a dumb question but here goes.
Can i buy the iPhone from and Apple store but not sign up for the cellphone contract. I just need to purchase the equipment.

Yup $400 buy out... but you need to pay by plastic, no other methods excepted. And their gift cards = junk on iPhones

In fact, you NEVER sign up at the Apple store. They sell you the phone, you take it home and connect it to iTunes. You sign up there. Very nice, very streamlined.
