• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm planning on getting a new camcorder when I visit the US next week, will there be any compatability issues with NTSC or PAL?
I'm guessing that once it goes into imovie or FCE it doesn't make a difference where the DVD is played? Or am I wrong?

I have checked on the Apple site and the camera is compatable.

I hope to get the Sony DCR-SR82 and a Black Macbook.

Thanks in advance

I don't think there will be any issues. I say this because I've bought PAL DVD's and ripped them, then re-encoded them at 29.97 to play on my NTSC DVD player.

The computer will play whatever, and you re-encode using whatever frame rate you want.

Best,

Brian
