[SOLVED!] - I had my firewire HDD plugged into my Mac Mini, and the Camcorder plugged into the firewire socket on the HDD... BAD IDEA, sharing one firewire stream, between TWO intensive processes!!.

WARNING - DON'T DO THIS!!!

Hi chaps.

Just received my Panasonic NV-GS320 (so excited!!). I am working Final Cut Pro 6, an using PAL because I am a Brit :). I just wanted to ask why the clips that I drag to the timeline (which are 23.98FPS clips) output all jaggedy and de-synced, when I try to record them back to the camera via FW.

Very confused - am I missing something?. Here is my working:

1/ Edit Sequence using this setting:

2/ Then I do a:

3/ Finally, I set my camera deck to record (in advance by 5 secs or so) and then tell FC to start sending... and it comes out all jaggedy... arrggh!

What is your pulldown pattern in the timeline set to (should be under the RT drop down menu on the top left of the timeline)? I don't know how PAL deals with 23.98 stuff which really is NTSC territory. To my knowledge they speed 24fps film up to 25fps and then lower the pitch on the audio. PAL freaks me out. Don't like it. Very weird. Move to the USA and re-edit everything in NTSC. :)

You're kidding me, right?. NTSC is inferior, and any video oriented person KNOWS that PAL has long been the envy of all US citizens. PAL has higher definition (no, not HIGH DEFINITION, highER definition!) than NTSC - always did, and we don't need to worry about such odd things as why on earth you use 29.97 fps... that is just bizarre!. Repeating 4-5fps frames for pulldown?. GAH!.

For fear of sounding superior, I hasten to remind you that it was a UK citizen who invented TV - John Logie Baird. As a Brit, I am duly proud. Whether or not I care is a different matter.

Read the thread starter - I fixed it - had my external HDD plugged in to Mac, and camera into HDD.. bad move.
