Microsoft on Friday officially dropped development of Internet Explorer for Macintosh. The company's Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) will release an update for the OS X version of the browser on Monday that will have security and performance enhancements, but no new features.

Figures...

The only reason I use IE is when I have to go to websites that are specifically programmed to NOT follow the W3C standards.

Maybe we, as Mac users, should boycott all sites that require the use of IE to work.

I think I'd join the boycot of all those IE only sites. I downloaded Camino today to try it out, but I still like Safari the best.

i like camino, i have only used ie once on my mac anyway, it looks too OS 9ish, even though its been carbonized for osx. Im happy with camino, its fairly stable, and mac addict rated it number one, closely followed by safari.

See for me, I didn't like how Camino looked. It was too Netscape/Mozilla-like and I have never liked how either of those looked. It worked nicely, just was not asthetically pleasing to me.

You know what the strangest part of this is? If you look at the user agent string for MSN for Mac OSX that was just released, it's listed as IE 6.0. So clearly they have it available, they just aren't releasing it as a standalone. What ******** ;)

I believe the word is bastages :)

Have you used the latest OmniWeb beta? It is pretty slick. Still can't hit some of the bank sites, but for the most part it is really nice.

I am still having Safarai crashes with .80. Wonder what is up with that.

The only time Safari quits on me is sometimes on sites with a background sound when I navigate away from that site. Other than that it seems pretty stable. I haven't tried OmniWeb yet. Is the latest beta the one that is using Apple's webcore?

ah yes! If it wasnt for safari OmniWeb would be my primary browser, but I think It will always be my secondary for as long as safari is around.

Yes, Schweb, OmniWeb uses the WebCore of safari. But they have their own implementations of stuff like Java, and CSS I believe. Definately worth checking out. The only thing it doesn't have is tabbed browsing. Which I have become addicted to, so it is little hard to transition :)

I think my only problem is the idea of paying for a browser....for some reason it just doesn't sit well with me. Maybe if it's an excellent piece of software, but when you have Safari as a free alternative, it would be difficult to do.
