I have an Ubuntu machine that runs as my backup server. I have it setup so I can mount in OS X. My understanding is that Time Machine needs an HFS+ partitioned drive but should be able to use my remote drive. I don't know if either of these things are true, but I was wondering if there is a way for me to use OS X to format my drive on my Linux server with HFS+. Any ideas?

HFS+ should only be required on a drive connected to your local machine via USB or FW. The format of a networked drive should not be an issue.

Do not know though, whether Time Machine will require a local drive.
