Backup

Hi, ive been trying to look for some sort of software (preferable open-source or free ware) to back up my mac book. Here comes the complications...

Its bootcamped and what i really want it to create a complete back up of everything to either a usb, ftp or smb connection.

Ive used norton ghost in the past with pcs, and assumed that most back up programs boot from startup, is this even true?

So i like the way norton simply creates one file and remembers how the hard drive is partitioned etc...

any ideas?
