• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi I have a Mac mini 1.42 GHz PopwerPC G4 with 512 ram and Mac OS 10.4.10. For years I have been importing DV video from my Canon ZR70 MC A video camera via a firewire cable.

But now all of a sudden the Mac does not recognize the camera. I've tried the obvious things - camera restart, cable in and out on both ends, Mac restart. Also, just to rule out iMovie problems: The camera is no longer recognized as a webcam by Yahoo Messenger either.

Last time this happened (about 6 months ago) I ended up doing a complete HD wipe and OS reinstallation, and that fixed the problem. But obviously that's a very time-consuming process and I'd like to see if anyone knows a faster way to fix this.

I suspect the problem is related to the video and/or firewire drivers, since the OS reinstall fixed it, but I'm a Windows/Linux guy and I don't know much about reinstalling or troubleshooting Mac drivers. Any suggestions or links to relevant resources would be greatly appreciated!
