• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I think I may have just messed myself up. I copies all the mts files from my camcorders SD card to an external HDD for editing later. I just found out iMovie can't read mts files, only directly imported from the camera. I've since deleted and re-formatted to the SD card for more video.

These were videos from my son's birth we intended to memorialize. My wife is gonna have my head if I can't restore / edit these.

PLEASE HELP...

If you create a disk image and put your files on it (in the same directory layout as they were on the SD card), iMovie will see it as a camera and you'll be able to import them.

OK, I understand...but doesn't iMovie require all the 'other' files that the camera produces in those directories in order to import them? I just have the mts files only.

You need the whole directory structure. All the other files are used to locate the data in the mts files...

I used an SD card reader and copied the MTS file back to the 'Stream' folder..the folder where the camera stores the MTS files.

I remounted and nothing happened. It would not recognize the MTS file. Under 'normal' circumstances, inserting the card reader and mounting it with iMovie running automatically brings up the import window.

I'm sure that due to the other generated files being non-existent, iMovie won't import.

I'll try again, but I'm sure it doesn't work
