The Rode video mic gets good reviews. I've used Rode NT1's for studio recording and those are really, really good mics.

what kind of inputs are on the camera? RCA? XLR? 1/8" TRS?

Cant find where i put the manual for it, but looking at the connector its defo not XLR, its like a earphone jack socket, except the outer casing of the connector is threaded.

I think it's the standard 1/8" stereo mini jack. Several good mics (including the Rode) come with that jack standard, and there are adapters to take XLR to 1/8" easily available.

Any links for the adapters? Have been offered a brand new XLR condenser mic

this is the first one I found via Google. Adapter Link

Also check your local electronics store (I don't know if you have Radio Shack in Ireland or not).

Cheers thats looking close to what i require.
My only concern is that on the camcorder the mic jack outer casing is threaded, im now assuming that that one you refer to pushes in and i dont need to be concerned about a threaded fitting.

No Radio Shack over here that I know of

Yes its threaded but doesn't matter, i have the FX1 and it has the same input, don't worry about that. Radio Shack wouldn't carry that by the way, ive actually been looking for something like that. Rode video mics are very nice but very professional and expensive. I would just search Google for "shotgun video mics" and see what you like best. Heres a good looking one, it really just depends on how pro you are trying to be http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-AG-MC100-Microphone-Shotgun-Mic-MC-100-XLR_W0QQitemZ230176829910QQihZ013QQcategoryZ83857QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
