Below is the description of the machine I am looking to buy. I know the RAM is too small but I believe I can upgrade it to 2 GB. Other than that do you guys think its good machine to start off with? I have offered him USD$700, but I don’t know how far I should go for this old Mac with this specs.

I need it for school. First year we will not use it that much but I want to get use to Macs then the next year we will get into high end designing and all.

So can I stretch it for 2 years with a memory upgrade, until I can afford a new one?
How much should I get this laptop for? (max amount)

well, that is an okay deal but for like 100 more you could shop around for a CD macook.

I wouldn't pay more than $600 for that whole package, but thats me.

...and for less, you could get a new Mini (but you would have to add a monitor). I think skye has the right idea. Can you afford just that little bit more to get a truly new machine?

I need a laptop, so mini does not work for me.
I cannot spend more than USD$800
Therefore, I was leaning towards this laptop.
I can put more RAM in and work with it until I can afford a new one.

What do you guys think?

I agree with everyone else. See if you can find a CD MacBook for ~$800. It really is a superior machine.
