I've had my Mini for a while now, and i'm ready to pull the trigger on a laptop. I'm wondering what the best machine for my money would be.

I have about $1200 to work with, so i'm wondering if I should go for:
-Brand new MB white 2.0GHz/80GB/1GB
-Refurb MB white 2.16/120GB/1GB
-Used 15" MBP. This would probably be a CD 2.16 or so. $1200 is a stretch for MBP's.

It will be used mainly for everyday tasks (web browsing, music, ect.), with simple video editing, and some home recording with Garageband. Is buying a CD MBP even worth it anymore, should I just go for a C2D MB? Or will the MBP, being a nicer machine, hold its own for some time to come?

BTW, i'm reasonably technically minded when it comes to electronics. So upgrading a machine by installing a new HD or RAM is an option, and i'm not afraid of buying used, as I feel comfortable working on a computer myself.

Thanks for the reply. I'd use my student discount if I was a student!

I'd get a brand new, i learned my lesson after a few different "refurbished" products looked more appealing at a cheaper price... however, I soon learned the extra savings would just be given to the Drug store for Advil to relieve headaches

I would say if you are getting a good condition Core Duo MBP, go for it. Its not a slow performer at all. Maybe a 10% increase with the C2D, but otherwise its better than the current Macbooks...

Headaches? I thought Advil was for rashes/allergies. Use them all the time....
