I asked a guy here in Chicago and he said $10. It costs more to live in Cali, except for when it comes to gas, so maybe it's more out there.

Minimum wage here is $5.85 right now.

$10 does seem a little low and I'm a bit surprised. I'm pretty sure think even the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy make more than that.

From what I've been hearing, the Geek Squad gets paid around $15/hr.

I asked him because I was looking for a new job. It does seem low. I think he was just a sales person. He wasn't a genius. Maybe he worked in the back. But he wore the standard shirt and name tag lanyard thing.
Maybe the benefits are really nice....

Genius pay varies by cost of living in your region. I was told that you get paid on salary not by the hour for genius bar. The floor guys get paid by the hour. It is a very long process to get hired as a genius.

I know it's an old thread, but I recently attended a recruitment session.

I initially this an email from a 'People Leader' (sounds MLM) of one of their locations after I applied online:

"We want you to explore starting a career with Apple Retail - we are currently seeking full-time and part-time Specialists, Experts, Inventory Specialists and Business Managers. We are also looking for candidates that desire training that will lead them to Genius, Creative and Management roles within Apple Retail. For complete job descriptions for each of these roles, visit Apple - Redirect to Jobs Information and click Apple Store."

... along with scheduling information etc. I was pretty stoked as I would definitely be interested in the Business Manager position as I have corporate experience and Apple Pro app, iWork and Adobe CS skills. I stood a pretty decent chance at any interview process.

There were around 10 of us at this particular recruitment session. First they showed us this video about how excited it is to work for Apple retail. It was a good video but I was getting suspicious as this is kinda MLM'ish. Then we role-played and as a group talked about ourselves... unconventional methodologies but I thought well it's Apple. Then some more videos and presentation about how successful Apple is, and how wonderful it is to work for Apple Retail, how it's about 'providing solutions', not 'sales' etc etc. Then they finally tells us that they are only hiring Specialists (bottom feeding sales). The recruiters didn't even have the courtesy to spend any one on one time with any one of us. So then I confronted the 'People Leader' about the Business Manager and she said it was filled. This was 4 days after I got my initial email. A normal company that actually treats its recruits professionally would've had the courtesy to inform them that a position previously advertised is no longer available.

It's one thing if I don't qualify for a position, but it's another to dangle a carrot in front of me and then try to brainwash me into taking a low pay scale job. I turned down my own client just to make it out to this non-sense and these inconsiderate cheaters pulled this non-sense off.

Don't work for them. I love my iMac but I will think twice before I buy another Apple product.

Thanks for the info. I have always been curious about Apple retail. It's not my thing, but always peaked my interest as a last ditch tech job option.
