is there a way to make my computer want a password when I turn it on every time, such as the one it needs for installing things?

I'm going to college and I don't want my roommates or anyone getting in.

go to system pref, then got to accounts you should be able to set a password if you dont already have one and there should be an option to change the log in options so you go to a log in page instead of directly to the desktop.
