How do you close an application completely?

i know the X wont close them completely, so am guessing its using up my resorces.

all you have to do is click command+Q
command is the key with the apple on it

you can also quit an app from it's name menu on the menu bar or by right-clicking on it's icon on the dock (in either case select quit or force quit if the app is hung).

You could also open the force quit menu (opt + command + esc) which will show you all the programs still running on your system. It will allow you to quit any program you choose to quit from that menu.

You could also open the force quit menu (opt + command + esc) which will show you all the programs still running on your system. It will allow you to quit any program you choose to quit from that menu.

Only use this method if the appication is unresponsive. This is the 'bad' way to quit a program.
