Recently switched from PC desktop to MacBook for home use. To access this forum, I am running XP on Boot Camp, and using dialup through a USB modem. I really want a faster connection, and would like it available on both sides of Boot Camp too. What are my options? How to set something up? Thanks for help.

Do you have a problem with an existing broadband setup, or do you need to create something from scratch.

If you have an existing setup, I'd first ask:
- Are you getting broadband connectivity in OSX?
- Are all your network adapter drivers up to date?
- Do you have a network setup, or do you connect direct to your modem?
- If you have a network, what kind is it (wired / wireless)?
- Can you connect to your router??

If you're looking to start from scratch, I'd suggest:
- Calling your cable company and signing up for broadband Internet service. (≈ $25/mo)
- Connect their modem, when it arrives, to your cable outlet.
- Buy a wireless router from Radio Shack, or an Airport station from Apple.
- Connect that wireless router to the modem.
- Configure wireless router following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Then lay back on your sofa, and surf the net with speed on your MB.

I hope this helps...

one more broadband internet cxn question

Thanks, I can work with that picture in my head. FOI, my cable company charges $40/mo, but provide modem and install.

Last question: Radio Shack or Apple for the router? Any benefit for the Apple other than overwhelming sexiness?

For a router, I've used linksys wrt-54G and netgear with no issues on wired or wireless connections.

Apple routers are great looking, so compare prices and get what suits your needs, budget, and desire (pretty much in that order),

I wouldn't go with Apple's router with the $179 price tag. You can pick up some G routers (more than plenty for internet browsing) for as low as $40. Or, if you really want the latest N router, you can get one for $90.

Of course, DLink is far from sexy... But it gets the job done.
