Basically is it worth the extra money for the extra .16Ghz?
Buying MacBook for pleasure and college work, should I buy any other software?

Nah, probably not worth the extra money for the processor (you won't notice any difference).

Extra software depends on what you're going to be doing. There's plenty of great, free apps out there, but I couldn't live without Photoshop, for example. :Smirk:

Totally agree with the above post. Just spend that money saved on the .16Ghz and get some apps you need or more memory. But from a place other than apple. As apple's ram are expensive.

2.0 is 1200 and the 2.4 is 1500.
is the 300 dollars worth for .4ghz of speed and 128mb more of video card, and 70gb of hard drive? what do you guys think?

If you're a gamer I'd say the better imac is very worth it. If not I'd say that $300 could be better spent on some more ram (not apple) and an external hard drive (firewire). Or some apps.

The 2.0 Ghz will fly on most things. I know mine does.

You'll see a bigger performance difference, but not 300 bucks worth.

you guys made me feel a lot better about my purchase. i ordered mine yesterday and was worried i should have upgraded to the 2.16ghz. the 2.0 is still an upgrade from my current laptop, but i like to have the best of everything, however i don't really need it. thanks for making me feel better! haha

I'm with every one here, that 160mhz different is not worth $300. Spend that on dumping 2gb of ram into your computer or spend it on software or DVD's or music or something of the like.

I had a similar decision over the MBP 2.2 or 2.4. I went with 2.2 and performance is fine. Kids like it for playing games (Windows on Boot Camp).

i am also a college student who just got macbook last week, the 2.0 ghz is plenty and runs fast. if your tight on cash i dont think theres anything wrong with the basic model. i was even planning on upgrading the Ram but i dont think i need too.

Memory and disk can always be changed later as they come down in price.
