Just wondering if anyone here has DirecTV HD.
After being a long time subscriber with them (since around '95) switched to DishNetwork when I started upgrading all my TV's to Hi-Def.

Told DirecTV to give me a call when they could compete with Dish. Got a call last night and am being told they now have Sci-Fi, A & E, Bravo, added the Starz HD and others at the beginning of the month and will be continuing to add more each month.

None of these channels are listed on DirecTV's web site and am wanting to know for sure have they actually, finally begun this HD rollout or not.

Just a follow up for any others that may get this call from DirecTV's win back team.

The company doing their phone sales lied. Was told they currently have a total of 55 HD channels including the four I mentioned above (by no less than all 3 of the different people I talked to during the call). In fact they do not, and as of yet, have not added any HD channels to their line up.

I was told that this roll out is to begin in September. Consequently, cancelled the installation I had scheduled.

Was also told that the existing HD DVR I have (cost a $1000 at the time) would work. Per my conversation with DirecTV's service reps, it in fact, will not work with the new channels. They have, as was previously foretold (as long ago as 2-3 years ago)moved to an mpeg4 format and it will not work with the older HD units. So, all of you current and former subscribers will have to change out your existing HD DVR for one of the new units. As of yet, the customer service reps have not been told what the policy is going to be for this exchange.
