i switched...so now what...

hi, im just about to make the switch, well it is going to happen it is just a matter of time, but anyway, i was wondering what retail stores sell mac software, particulary games. i tried my local best buy, eb, and gamestop, and havent had any luck, where should i venture next?

If you're switching for games, I'd rethink it.

1. Only a handful of PC games are converted to the Mac.
2. When converted to a Mac, the game will generally have been out for the PC for a year or so.
3. Often the conversions are not very good, so system specs for games can be horrendously high.
4. Many shops sell PC games, Mac games have to be ordered from the web or found in very rare specialist retailers.
5. The PC game market is competitive, so you can find bargains or reductions on even new games. Mac games are expensive when released and generally just stay that way.

I like Mac's, my love for my powerbook borders on the fetishistic, but they're not gaming machines. Don't listen to the "the Mac gets the good PC games" argument because it's pointless, the bottom line is that the PC gets ALL the games (variety is the spice-o-life), they're much cheaper and they're easier to get hold of.

My advice:

- Keep your PC for games and buy yourself a Mac for the computing...once you have it, you never want to give it back ;-)
- Sell the PC, buy a Mac for the real work, and buy a Xbox for gaming, that's what I did. The Xbox just gets all the PC games too, and game prices are quite the same.

Allthough recently the Mac gets more and more good games, they still are not intended as game machines...

VPC 7(I don't believe it is out yet) will have native 3d video card support. The reason that the current VPC is so slow is because it does not recognize your video card, therefore forcing it to use the hardrive for video, instead of the graphics card, therefore making it slow. Once VPC 7 is out, check it out! It's well worth it to go all Mac(like me)!

But Virtual PC 7 is still emulation and it's still going to be slow. It will always be slow.

Get an Xbox. Xbox = Best console. Ever. Get Xbox Live too, and play me online.

or if you already have a PC then use that! It's probably the most configureable 'game console' out there! But just be prepared to lose the occasional file here and there!

(i'm not knocking the PC, it's great all-rounder... very cheap too!)
