I did it!

I had a really, really crappy 6-year-old Dell, and moving to a MacBook Pro, I'll never move back to a PC again. My only complaint is the battery life, but other than that, I'm so glad I moved.

I get about 5 hours of battery life from my MBP, is yours really bad? Anyway, hope you'll enjoy your transition to Mac - you'll never look back ever again.

Having a 5 hour battery life is certainly music to my ears. To achieve 5 hours though, what do you run? Just surf the Internet for the whole time? Or do you do more intensive tasks?

My MBP allowed me approx 5 hours of doing the following tasks:

- Surfing the web wireless (802.11g)
- Writing up research report (Word 2004)
- Listen to music on iTunes (with Shure headphone)

Environment
- screen brightness automatically adjusted
- adequate lighting from a floor lamp
- Bluetooth on

That's about it.

My Santa Rosa 2.2ghz 15" MBP gets about 3.5 hours, which is great to me. That's with Wifi and Bluetooth on, 4 gigs of ram and a 7200rpm hard drive, and the LCD at full brightness.

How long does it last when playing a DVD? My mum's Phillips C2D thingy mabob will shut itself down after about 100mins (which I thought was pretty poor, but I suppose keeping the DVD spinning uses a lot of juice).

ya i do word so far, itunes, internet, sometimes photoshop cs2, i try to keep brightness low to try to conserve battery.

Just about to do the same thing; my MBP should be shipping next week.

Just Download the DVD, then you can watch it anywhere!

For my MBP i get at least 3hours for running 3d application such as cinema 4d and modo.
With just surfing the internet i get near to 5 hours with wi-fi open.
Im amazed with the battery life

I plan on ripping all my DVDs eventually (I've already done 160); but as this was my mum's I just slapped in the DVD and pressed play.
