Good evening everyone.

I thought I'd post something that's getting a bit annoying: A ton of new people coming to the forums are using the same avatar!

mac.gif

Is it me, or is anyone else finding this a bit irritating? It's annoying if you're like me and don't always read the name, you just notice the familiar avatar and you say "hey, that's schweb, hey, that's dtravis7". It's a little awkward when that turns in to "hey, there's *long list of usernames*"

Just thought I'd launch. I'm sure all of you identify at least some people by avatar. Seeing this constant blue apple is annoying and confusing for me.

I agree, I navigate by avatars if there is one, and username if not. It's the whole point of avatars, to identify the person. Imagine if groups of people all had the same face...

It does make it easy to tell who the brand new ones are.

I use the start date and post count for that - I assume that's why they are there.

oooohhhh, apple tattoos. Now... I like that idea. ;)

I agree, I also usually look at the avitar before I look at the username. I think the apple is setup as a "default" icon when you signup. If not, I know it's in the database for the forum avitars. I think we should delete it muah hahaha.

I always find this interesting. I use the same basic Avatar everywhere, the little dude is the same but the background differs (I have 8 different versions I think). The few times I have completely changed my Avatar it's thrown a LOT of folks off.

I do it on occasion just to mess with peoples heads....

Uh oh, I feel a change coming on...

I switch avatars frequently. Typically I'll go a few weeks with the same one and then something will have changed in my mood, significant enough that I want a new face. I've had ol' stony for the last month, so it's time. (It's a Moai statue from Easter Island, fwiw.)

For fun I write science fiction and fantasy short stories, and I also play Dungeons and Dragons. That means I can be anything I want to be - human, elf, gnome, male, female, whatever. Professionally I'm a mathemagician; it says so on my real life honest-to-goodness stodgy ol' corporate business card! So my avatar reflects something about what's going on inside me.

Hmmm... what do I want to be? -_^

I never thought anything of it. I rarely change mine.

I'm sure you'll think of something, mathogre. ;)

I usually try to go for a fun or Apple-ish theme in my avatar =)

I found mine at airliners.net and liked it because it looks like a happy airplane. Before I started using this, I didn't have an avatar.

Schweb, I always liked your Chicken Avatar.

Mine is a pic of my iBook with my cat on the screen. I changed it once and Graph at the time went crazy, so changed it back.
