Alright, I'm slightly bored, and extremely buzzed so....new challenge! Also I'm tired of waiting for Eric on the last one. ;D

Track: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Car: Lotus Elise 111r
Settings: TCS and ASM: ON
Tires: Soft

4-lap time-trial, post your best.

I love this track/car combo as Laguna Seca is a pretty technical course and the Elise is a car that can be very fast, or very slow on a track like this, depending on how you drive it.

1.40.281 was my best time through 4 laps. I'm pretty sure that if I didn't have 8 beers in me it would've been faster, but I'll take it. Post 'em up!

I might be able to do some of these races too on Forza. I have several of the best known racetracks, and lots of cars. If you give more model specs, I might be able to race with you guys.

Right heres the replay, Ive left the acc/break details on to help :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PISA8YMdxyU

I know i completly overcooked one of the corners near the end but i know that doesnt reflect with a +9 second time on somone like subwalls.
I have always been a few seconds behind in the other challenges as well so I know its my techniques during corners etc (not hittin the apex very well etc)

Not sure how to improve on this though so help really appreciated :)

hmmm hard to tell from the vid, especially w/o sound, but the only thing I can think that would add the significant difference in time, since there were no major mistakes, would just be an overall slower speed (sounds dumb i know, but hear me out.) Braking a little too hard into corners and losing more speed than necessary can kill you on that track, with the elise especially since it's not an overly powerful car, but relies on good handling to get around a track fast. i always just try to concentrate on beginning my braking when the flashing gear indicator starts flashing, and end braking and begin my turn when it stops. I've found doing this will give you a good fast speed through a corner provided you are on the correct line. this way, if you go off course, you know it's the wrong line and you can correct next time.

I saved my replay from this one. How do you get replay video from the PS2 to the computer. i can use a USB drive to get the pictures, but I dont think this works for replay video. Did you just use a camera and record the screen?

TS, like subwall says, you may be being a bit too conservative. it's a tough track and using the whole width really makes a difference. knowing where to be careful (like the bumpy bit that probably helped you off the track), and where you can try to push a bit more (almost the whole first half of the track) will help a lot. but it's a great track to get used to. kind of like suzuka, if you can drive this well, you can drive anywhere well.

i'll be running both of these tonight (in about 14-16 hrs)...

To get the video i just used the TV card on my windoze machine ;)

Im probably going to give it another go later to see if I can improve on my braking/acc techniques in/out of corners :)

Thanks everyone!

Ok, found myself bored again tonight so here's another new one. This one should be pretty fun, it's a frustrating course if you don't know it well. I drove it with many cars to find one that fit well with the course, so I guess technically I had more than 4 laps, but only 4 in this car. So feel free to practice all you want, no need to just bust out 4 random laps on a course you don't know and call it "best." Anywho...

Track: Citta Di Aria - Normal (City Track)
Car: Cusco Advan Subaru Impreza (JGTC) '03
Settings: TCS and ASM ON
Tires: This is a race-prepped car so I went with Super-soft tires.

My best came on my third lap and was a 1'29.822"

Tips: The end of the long back straight (NW corner of the on-screen map) is very tricky, you're going down the hill with so much speed the braking indicator doesn't come on in time. If you wait for it, you'll slam into the wall. With that said, be too cautious and you'll lose a lot of time gaining speed back up the hill. You can slip through this part with a fair amount of speed, you just can't brake late. From that braking point up the hill through the city to the finish is the most important for a good lap time. The last little left-handed kink before the start/finish line takes very good timing due to the narrow, bumpy road. These two things amount to about 1/6th the total length of the track, but can shave, or add, 2-3 seconds from, or to, your lap.

Got a nice shot of the car completely in the air coming off one of the steep dropping turns. :Mischievous:

And look, my car's going so fast it's melting those spectators. haha

you don't mess around do you... ;)

i was going to give TS a bit of time before i sent him on the one i really want to do (an NSX on the 'ring).

that one will be fun, i both hate to love, and love to hate that course. luckily it's a lot less stressful when you're trying to avoid a second car and 5 sec penalties...

ok, had some time today. :)

So, this was me in the vanquish...

lap 1) 1:45.916
lap 2) 1:46.646
lap 3) 1:45.332
lap 4) overcooked last big right hand U before the esses so much so that i tapped the outside wall  i think i got spooked by my ghost. ;)
lap 5) 1:44.157

### final results ###
arcade mode > time trial > world circuits > Infineon sports car course
UK > Aston Martin > Aston Martin Vanquish 04' @ 459BHP
TCS and ASM on, sports medium tires.
1) Subwall - 1.43.511
2) Eric - 1:44.157
3) TenderSurrender - 1:49:477

nice run subwall!

now, on to the elise.

lap 1) 1:40.724 totally overshot the top of the corkscrew... ;P
lap 2) 1:48.184 dismal... just ruined the first left handerswent in too hot and too early and then ended up going way too wide and off into the dirt. blew the courage i was feeling through the first lap.
lap 3) weird, the game glitched and still shows 1:48.184, though i was right behind my first lap ghost...
exited and doing one lap
lap 4) 1:46.872 concentration was totally blown, just started not being able to keep the car on a clean line and was constantly putting a couple tires in the dirt which just really unsettles the little guy.

i guess the moral here is don't drive an elise when you're scared of it. and don't drive on the corkscrew when you're not. ;)

### current standings ###

now to try the race prep scooby.

lap 1) 1:36.657 - tagged the wall on that last tricky uphill bit.
lap 2) 1:35.504 - clean!
lap 3) 1:35.704 - some little taps, but nothing critical
lap 4) DNF, totally hosed the second spectator area and went head on into the wall on the left. i was a good second ahead of my ghost too...

you've got nuts of steel Subwall... whew! that was nerve racking.
