So Windows users could easily back up all their stuff, especially e-mails, contacts and calendar items, and have them available in a _useful_ simple format once they switched over to Apple.

Well there is an iDisk tool for Windows, so if you sign up for .Mac you can access the address book, mail, calendar through the web interface and mount your iDisk under windows as well.

So it's already fairly cross platform, but it will only sync with Macs currently. But for a quick and dirty upload solution it'll do.
