.avi burning problem

I'm using toast 8.0 and trying tp burn .avi files that will play on a standalone dvd player.toast will convert the file and burn it and I can watch them on my Macs at a really poor resolution. when I try to watch them on regular dvd player, it only recognizes it as a cd.

any thoughts?

This is a dumb question.


Are you burning them onto dvds?


Try DVD-R media, you may have the .5% of players which don't accept
DVD+R.

What settings are you using? Are you burning it on a CD with the VideoCD option or are you using a blank DVD and burning it as a DVD? What type of DVD media are you using?

Like marlton said, you very well may have the small percentage of players that can't read DVD+R. Try the disc you've already burned in another DVD player to rule out that possibility

I;m burning onto memorex dvd+r rw's. I've had no problem burning video TS copies onto them.

I've tried to play them on a Sony dvd player, and two generic portable dvd players that both recognize the dvds as cds.

they fire right up on the intel macs, but the 24" imac video is pretty grainy.

When I burn my .avis onto a dvd I dont use the video_ts option. I use the "dvd video option" (while using toast 8, which is a must have app for any dvd burner). Give that a whirl and see what happens. I also highly reccomend switching to - r media for guaranteed compatibility.
