Please help. Just trying to print to a shared Vista printer

I have a totally up-to-date PC running Vista, with a new HP photo printer attached to it. No problems on that end. I simply want to be able to print to this printer from my new MacBook, but have had nothing but problems when trying to add it. It keeps asking for a username/password, and no matter what I put in there, it does not accept it. I've found some other posts on the Internet about this and it seems that no one can figure it out??? I can't be the only person who wants to print from a MacBook to a shared Windows printer.......Please help.

Are you using an Internet security suite on your Vista PC? Have you checked the firewall settings to ensure that printer sharing is allowed?

Has anybody figured this out? I just had to replace an xp machine with a vista home premium machine and now i cant print to it from my macbook. I had the same issue as the op and have tried a bunch of various tips on the internet. Anyone have this successfully working? Please post soon!

Yup....When I get home this evening I'll dig out my notes and post to this thread the fix that worked for me...MAN was that frustrating!

thanks to the anonymous contributor. anyway, this is the best 100% working method.

but one thing I did learn today, a network printer is different to a shared printer. **** this, if you google, google for a vista shared printer. then you're half way done. (a network printer refers to a printer has its own IP, and can be hooked up with a wired/wireless router regardless what machine you're using on your network, correct me if I'm wrong)
