I have an eMac G4 with an OSX.2.3 op. system. For the life of me I cannot get the Safari browser to come up so I can get online. the IP add. router, etc. numbers are all kosher, but it still will not bring up anything. I know the operating system is old, I got it in '04, used it for a year, then went to a PC because of these problems. I called Apple and they said they cannot do anything until I buy a warranty. I was thinking about re-installing the OSX, it's the only thing I can think of, but i'm so green with the Mac that i dont even know how to do that. I hate having it and not being able to use it. Anyone out there have any ideas??

ok, to be clear, you definetely HAVE safari installed right...yeah i know it sounds dumb...

anyways, if you wanna reinstall OS X, just pop in the OS X install disc (assuming you have one...) and reboot the system whilst holding down C. Then follow the on screen prompts to wipe your hard drive and reinstall OS X.

Of course im betting there are easier solutions.

How is your eMac connected to the internet?

In System Preferences, Network do you have it set to get an address Via DHCP? What address is listed there?

I have an iMac here with 10.2.8 Jaguar, I just plug it into my network and it gets and IP and is on the internet.

When you do get it on the net click Software Update and update that OS to 10.2.8 and install all the security updates also.
