I got my first Mac (iMac) a while back and I was wondering if there is a quicker way to delete files than right-clicking and selecting 'Move to Trash'. For example on Windows you just press 'delete' on the keyboard.

It works on my APPLE wireless keyboard (unless you are referring to the fact that it's not actually labeled "Backspace") :p

I think he is saying that because smurfy attempted to correct andrebnu who said it was command+delete, as if command+delete was wrong. As we know, command+delete does in fact work. ;)

umm no. command+delete doesnt work for me. onl command+backspace.

two things you should note though:
1) im using a British layout keyboard, that could make some change
2) im using an Apple keyboard. the one that shipped with my Mac. I also read an switchers' guide (its in one of the stickies in this very section) which said command+backspace.

ive tried setting my keyboard option to U.S. and command+delete still failed to work...

Exactly. There shouldn't be a backspace key on any Apple keyboard. Just delete and, possibly, forward-delete

Unlike their portables, don't apple keyboards have a dedicated delete key? wont just hitting that work?

It works for CD/DVDs in the superdrive...but not for mounted images.

You can also use the delete icon in Finder (get it on the toolbar by right-click => customize).
