• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.

I have downloaded a bunch of TV shows and I want to be able to burn onto a DVD. The video files are just avi's that I have been watching in quicktime but when I try to burn them, I use Toast 7, they are way to big to fit onto a dvd and to burn a season's worth, say 13 or so episodes, I would have to use 5 or so DVD's. I have also tried iDVD, and obvisouly again, its the same thing.

Is there any software out there that could compress these AVI's, or is there any other options out there?

Any help is awesome! Thanks guys

If Toast is spanning the files across 5 DVDs, that's because it's turning them into proper DVDs that you should be able to pop into any DVD player. If that's what you actually want, then no amount of compression is going to cut down that number by a significant amount.

Now, if you just want to burn the files to a DVD as avi files for backup purposes, then use the Data DVD option. All the episodes should fit onto a single DVD, two at most if you go over the 4.7GB limit
