jump to desktop?

Macbook C2D 2.0ghz, 2GB ram, 80 Gig HD
is there a way to jump to the desktop minimizing all open windows.
i often use the mouse squeeze feature to switch windows, but cant see a way to get to the desktop without manually minimzing all windows

With DragThing, you can option-click the finder icon. That will set all other programs to hide automatically.

ta, the f11 thing seems to be the key. excuse the pun!
its was annoying downloading somthing then having to minimize all the other windows to get to it on the desktop.

yeh i know the hide keys, i just meant when i have lots of different windows with different progrmmes open at once.
