psx = ps (or ps1 as people started calling them after the ps2 came out). i think one of them actually refers to the smaller form factor one they made.

mikeyman, what is a PSX?

PSX is the shortened way of saying the "classic playstation".
The link may interest you, also the PSone is the smaller reduced in size version, they changed the hardware layout format inside to reduce 'chipping' the console.
Sony also released Net Yaroze which was a black playstation which could play copied games.

Its amazing how every console has potential for "homebrew" material, i thought the psp & the DS and any console of a similar nature would survive, but when i found gba cartridges on ebay, i was very surprised.

What amazed me but I never had the guts to try out is playing classic sony playstation games on the psp which required downgrading the firmware, and in some cases installing a 'custom' firmware.
This was why to copies of grand theft auto liberty city stories were created, the later one had a patch to stop the exploit.
Then images were used, which allowed you to keep your current firmware however play homebrew applications.
