Recording TV from your Comcast DVR to your Mac

I found this excellent article today (for those of you using Comcast DVR).

There's a few shows that I like to keep permanent copies of, including SciFi's Battlestar Gallactica. Until now, I had no way of doing that. But apparently the FCC mandates that Comcast (and other cable companies) must make the box accessible through Firewire - and as I understand it, most of the Comcast DVR boxes have a firewire port.

So for those of you interested, I figured I'd share the link. Yet another reason I'm glad I bought a Mac!

Thanks for the info. I will be getting an HD DVR Comcast box tomorrow and will try this out.

I'm pretty excited about this too. I had been using BeyondTV on a PC that I had built specifically as a PVR. This worked well and it was quite easy to burn shows to disc. When I switched over to Comcast HD/DVR, I pretty much abandoned my old PVR system and did miss this capability. Fortunately for us, the FCC did us a big favor by forcing the big cable companies to keep the box open.
