Iphone in Lost

I was watching the tv show lost last night and I noticed that the satellite phone that desmond pulled out of the backpack in the tree towards the end of the episode looked a little bit like the iphone. The actual phone didn't look anything like it, it was long and black, but the interface was the exact same as the Iphone. Kind of weird.

Lost is a show on ABC, a network owned by Disney, who has a close working relationship with Apple. So it's really not that weird.

i donno... looks like a regular made-up cell phone interface. my 2 yr old samsung looks sorta like that. the menu has rounded-corner buttons, battery indicator, signal bar indicator, etc.
Maybe it's a photoshop comp of a preliminary iphone interface =)

Check out the icon for "Home" on the phone...isn't the exact icon as on macs? Kinda cool.

Ah, I didn't notice that, cool. But still... movies and shows make up computer interfaces all the time to avoid paying money or getting sued. But they will take elements.

So wait a sec, I've never seen Lost, but aren't they stranded on an island? And, haven't they been stranded there since '05 or so? So how'd they even get a hold of something that even resembles an iPhone? Jeez, so much for me believing everything I see on TV.

I don't watch Lost, but I assume the show has progressed to a point in 2 years where this technology makes sense plot-wise. But it does seem weird to people who don't watch.

A helicopter failed in the air, the pilot parachuted and got stuck in a tree. They found her backpack with the phone in it. It wasn't really a 'phone', it was a CB or communication device, with a cellphone like interface.

This was posted on Engadget and several people commented saying they have various devices with very similar icons. I don't think it's an attempt to look like the iPhone. I think it's supposed to be general, but the way the icons look is being popularized by the iPhone.

According to the show, it's supposed to be a sat phone. For some reason, the burned-out-former-junkie-rockstar knew exactly what it was.

They showed it again on Lost tonight, along with video action. Looks like an iPhone, neato!

I remember that when they booted up the phone it gave some kind of visual as to the location of satellites in orbit, how come my cell phone doesn't do that ?
