• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi out there smart people, I have tons of equipment and software and no earthly idea how to use it all. I am trying to get a movie from my JVC digital camcorder onto a DVD. I know how to use iMovie, here is the problem - my internal hard drive is almost full. I have an external hard drive with tons of space, I just haven't found a way to convince my Mac to let me import the movie from the camcorder onto the external hard drive. Once I have it on the hard drive, I know how to use my external DVD drive to burn a DVD.

Many thanks!

I think the answer is to create a new iMovie project and save it to the external drive. Then perform the import.

Nice! I was about to have to ask whether it was a miniDV or HDD camera. Figured miniDV, but good answer either way.
