Wow, that's rough. Was there a typo or something? Maybe it was an elementary school English teacher or something!

I guess the OP'er should be lucky that didn't happen to him.

I usually try to remember to give rep whenever someone answers my question, but sometimes I'm so wrapped up in my problem, I forget to come back and take care of them.

Green = Positive
Grey = Member has not been a member of the forum long enough to give you rep - but they are still saying thanks (to stop people making accounts to modify their own rep)
Red = Negative

Maybe that person took the 'welcome' as a demeaning statement? Like you hold open a door for a 'modern woman' and she gets snooty.

For what its worth I did not give you the neg rep.. That said, I can see how people would give you neg rep for this thread. You maybe joking but you still started a thread asking for rep.. that in some peoples eyes could be seen as tacky and asking for rep which is not allowed.

Yea, you should be careful when asking for rep, even as a joke. I've gotten infractions put on my account because I was referring to rep in my sig.

Though I know how you feel. I sometimes wonder why I don't get rep for some really good pieces of information. I mean, that whole "Windows only" thread was worth AT LEAST 10 or 15 rep points :black:

Odds are someone just hit the wrong key and you were given neg rep instead of positive rep accidentally. I had that happen recently in the "tell me about yourself" thread ... if the person left a name, I suppose you could send them a message and ask why.

edit: read rest of thread, never mind. :) FWIW, you also got a grey pip if someone with net negative rep (rep squares under user info instead of green ones) gives you rep.

I didn't give you neg rep, either, but I'd be lying if I denied that it crossed my mind. Saying "just kiddin" at the end doesn't change the fact that it was a thread begging for rep. KoDorSean put it best, tacky.
