mp3 converter

Hi there,
does anyyone know any free software I can download to covert music files to MP3s?... Or is there someway of doing it using quicktime that I havent discovered?

iTunes will do it for you if you go into Preferences, select the advanced section, Importing tab under "Import using" there is a drop down menu where you can select the MP3 encoder instead of the AAC encoder which us usually the default.

I have found, however, that the iTunes encoder for MP3 isn't as good as a command line encoder that I use called 'bladeenc'. That's not to say that the iTunes encoder is necessarily bad, I just prefer to use bladeenc for a number of reasons that aren't relevant here. I usually like to let iTunes encode to AAC for most everything else.
