need help connecting to internet...

hi,

i'm new to mac, just got my macbook today, trying to connect to internet but it keeps saying "error joining the airport. what should i do?

another thing is this macbook is 80 GB one, but it only shows 57.23GB available. is this normal?

What kind of modem do you use?

RE HD capacity, it is normal because some of the HD space is used for the softwares installed. I have a 120 GB HD and it only shows 80+GB due to the installed softwares and files.
