The only image software that comes with your Mac is iPhoto. GraphicConverter used to come with Powerbooks, but for some reason they dropped that with the Intel laptops.

iPhoto can do some basic tweaking (saturation, resizing, red eye, etc), but if you need something more capable, you can install Gimp. It's an open-source editor with much of the functionality of Photoshop, but without the price tag (or any price tag since it's free). It does require that X11 be installed however (which is on your OSX installer).

I use Photoshop Elements for Mac. It is not free, but does many of the things Photoshop does and is suitable for most amateurs.

Not as full featured as Photoshop, but will probably do just fine for basic image editing.

I downloaded GIMP. I installed the x11dsk on my system disk. When I try to run gimp it says x11 is required to be installed.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, for the other suggestions checking them.
