• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

This is a Quicktime question - just wondered what the difference is when uploading to youTube or similar sites.

When you upload to youtube, your video is not instantly available. It is put into a processing queue. Their machines re-encode your video into another format. Most likely FLV (flash video) or MPEG. That way, the flash plugin can play your video in every browser - with no worry about codecs/players. The penetration rate of Flash is 98%.

So by that rationale should I choose 'web' or 'web streaming'?

If you plan to post to youtube (or other flash based system), you should find out their maximum file upload size. Then export your QT movie to that file size. Since your file is not getting streamed, it doesn't matter what setting you choose - remember, the service is going to re-covert it to their standard video format anyway.
So what you want to do is upload the best quality video as possible. They recode it, and post it as a streaming whatever-file (flash, mpeg, etc).

Uh, to answer your Q... it doesn't matter which you choose. As long as the quality is as best as you can get it while adhering to the service's restrictions - usually a file size limit.
