Where do I send for cheap digital prints?

I looked into online photo processing such as Snapfish. The free photo offers are for 4x6 prints. 5x7 prints are not that reasonable (costs about .70 cents or more each). Are they cheaper than printing them at home on photopaper? I don't like to have 4x6 prints.

You can order prints from withinside iPhoto/Aperture. I have not used the service so I have no idea how cheap or how good the quality is.

Personally I use Photobox They provide a good quick turnaround and i've never had a problem with them.

.70 for a 5x7 print is reasonable...

I worry more about quality than finding the cheapest route.

Thanks. I have a HP Photosmart Studio software, so I do can do my own arrangements. The price for a 5x7 was .99 on this site. So, I think it is a bit pricey.

Yeah! My issue has always been with a simple 5x7 photo price.

I looked into some photo paper prices and I am very tempted to print them at home. Each 8.5 x 11 HP premium high gloss photo paper costs about 14 cents a sheet. I can print two 5x7 photos. Even if you triple the cost for the color ink, it is still very reasonable. If you have the time to do it, that is.

You'll never match the quality or longevity if you print at home. No matter what the printer, ink, or paper says.

Exactly what I was going to say: it's all about longevity. Inkjet prints are notorious for not aging gracefully and have to be protected against sunshine, water, etc.

Epson has made some advances in the technology for print preservation but their business practices with the dang ink cartridges will prevent us from sticking with Epson when the time comes for getting a newer model.

Also, if you don't print regularly, the ink will clog up and you'll have to throw away non-fully-used cartridges. And they are not cheap.
So when you're shopping around for prints worrying about a lousy 70¢ extra ... consider that you have to maintain the printer's ink and paper. AND you'll have a lower quality image on lower quality paper that won't even last.

You would have to divide in the cost of the printer, plus the paper is generally the least expensive portion of the print if your going to use cheap papers....then you get into the longevity.

Some inksets and papers work great, I have printed and then held the print under a running faucet just because Epson said you could without damage...that print was made over a year ago and still hangs in my sons room unprotected...just taped up on his wall and looks like it did the day I printed it.

I already have an HP Photosmart printer.
Any change in advise, considering that I have the printer?

Consumer Reports does an annual review of photo printers and the result is always the same--- printing at home is always more expensive and while the intial quality of the prints are good, they do not have the longevity of the prints you get from a lab.

I usually use Costco or Sam's Club-- like CVS, you can upload and they'll be ready in an hour or two. The quality is top-notch and the prices are better than any I've seen elsewhere.

Well... I feel bad saying it, but my advice is still the same. Printing at home is fun, it's a novelty. But I choose sending away for them.

If you do not print in volume the cost issue is most likely true, however if you own a larger printer the cost of the inks drops considerably and the quality will match if not surpass that of professional printing. I own prints that are over two years old and in no way protected by glass or anything else that look just as they did the day I printed them.

For myself...Costco and Sams Club would not be top notch, though they may be quite good and more than acceptable for most. Top notch is a professional printer who actually performs service for you beyond printing as well as the highest quality paper, printing techniques and personal service.

There are differing levels of expectations, I would say my R2400 paid for itself in about 6 months however that is considering the cost to have printed 12x18 prints versus what it cost me to buy the printer and ink/paper to do the same. Photo enthusiasts who judge these prints would have never guessed they came from an inkjet. There is really no comparing a lower end photo printer of any brand to a higher end to professional printer of the same brand...they are more expensive to get into however if you do print many photographs well worth it. If you however do not print a lot, then there is no reason to make such a purchase.

I was referring to everyday prints-- the kind you'd run off and give to Grandma or the kids. This is the audience Consumer Reports was addressing as well.

If I wanted something archive- or display-quality, I would certainly use my favorite professional photo lab.
