• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

i've just 'liberated' a mac mini from work, and plan to use it to replace my steam-powered PIII 900 PC.

However, when i plugged my JVC DV cam (GR-D200EK) in via USB, nothing happened. So i went out and bought a Firewire cable, plugged it in, and zilch.

I thought Apple liked to advertise 'no drivers needed!' for a reason. Anyone any ideas what's gone wrong here?

Did you browse the JVC site if the device is supported in Mac OS X? Or did you try a Finder window? It can be connected as a disk over there.

imovie says 'no camera connected'. It doesn't appear on the desktop either.
Can't find a mention on the JVC site, but if certain things don't work, why does Apple say 'just connect your dv camcorder', instead of 'connect a compatible DV camcorder'?
